This graduate program aims to "link expertise in atmospheric sciences, biogeochemistry, geology, and hydrology to address regional and local issues that may also be nationally or globally significant." Click on the Program Description on the South Dakota Mines webpage (link below), for course requirements.
Masters Program
South Dakota Mines now offers two different options to persue a Master's Degree in Atmospheric & Environmental Sciences. As a student currently enrolled at the University, you have the option to begin an accelerated Master's program and take graduate level courses while finishing up an undergratuate degreee. The traditional two year Master's program is still available for non-South Dakota Mines students or for students who's schedule/ course load didn't not fit with the accelerated program.

Undergraduate Studies
Applied Biological sciences
The Applied Biological Sciences (ABS), is South Dakota Mines newest and fastest growing program. In addition to the available minors within the program, students are able to select an emphasis, one of which is environmental sciences. A portion of the course work will be dedicated to focusing on the emphasis, supplementing the main courses with this area of interest. This lab intensive program of study provides students with the opportunity for hands on experience during their time on campus. In addition to course work, students are highly encouraged to participate in undergraduate research. Many of the faculty within the ABS program have ongoing research projects that fall into each of the areas of emphasis.
Environmental Science Minor
Offered by: Department of Chemistry Biology and Health Sciences
The core curriculum requires students to complete a minimum of 19 credit hours, including 13 credit hours of required courses in Biology and Chemistry, and 6 credit hours of elective courses from various disciplines. The Environmental Sciences Minor will supplement the student’s major field to broaden the student’s overall academic preparation for a science or engineering career.
